This is my new song Raisin Cane.  It has not been released yet, not sure what I am gonna do with it yet. But it is a kickin ass mofo. I got my buddy AC Myles laying down the smokin guitar and I play the rest of the stuff, including an Alesis SR-16 Drum machine that I got dialed in in fine fashion. I haven't posted in here in awhile. A long while.  Hope all is well.  I am putting a link to a blog I keep on my Human Project Website if you wanna catch up a little. Things are well with my music. International sales, I am very grateful for all of that.

Other artists are recording some of my songs. I get these notifications in my monthly reports from CD Baby.  They collect my royalties since I let them publish my music.  Music is most certainly an international thing.  Some artists overseas are recording some of my songs.  They come from 7 or 8 different countries.  To legally record my stuff, they have to license the song.  When they do this, this is how I ultimately get paid based on how many downloads, etc are sold from their recording.

In the last accounting period for October, these songs of mine were licensed.

I have been on a Buddy Holly kick as of late I guess. I dig the simplicity of the songs, but yet the raw rockin power.  I messed around with his song, "Well All Right," off the Chirpin Crickets release of 1957 I believe.  On this particular track, I played everything. I used a cardboard box for a snare and soaked it in Reverb. This video I made tells ya all about that and more. Check it out.  Hope all has been well around here.

Buddy Holly was only 22 years old when he died in a plane crash in 1959.

Richie Valens and the Big Bopper were on board as well, but the real loss

was Buddy Holly. This is not to diminish the contributions of the others, but Buddy

was a rising star with a great future in front of him.

Not Fade Away

Was just messin in home studio the other night and this Buddy Holly song just came to me. So I took a crack at it. I drive the song with my acoustic and just build around it. But I must say the bass line I put down is bad ass.  I added a few more things in like a kick drum and conga's. I have no drum kit in little studio here.  Buddy Holly was one of my big early influences. I still have most of his albums on vinyl, purchased in the late 50's.  I still might bring in AC Myles for some lead stabs on this, but as it stands now, it's pretty good.

Workin On Something Big

I like Tom Petty. Alot.  I put a song by him on my Fadin To Gray release.It was off his MOJO album called, " Let Yourself Go."  The other day I got to messin with another one of his songs called "Workin on Something Big."  I ended up recording it in my home studio. I drive the song with my acoustic guitar and then add bass and conga's and a simple kick drum.  I then sent it to my friend AC Myles who put the lead track down. I changed the bridge, because on his version it's keyboard driven and goes in directions I just didn't want to take the time to learn.  So, here it is, all raw and ready.
Not releasing this track. It was just for fun, and I did have that. Sho did.

The Music scene in the Central Valley of California was dominated by what was known as Melco Dances because the promoter was Mel Simas.  They took place in Hanford, Tulare and Lemoore, California for the most part.  Loyd's bands were from Corcoran, CA.  He was still in High School when he played in all of these.  After this, he rarely played again for over 35 years, until he started The Human Project.

The Human, residing on the outskirts of Fresno, CA in the town of Clovis had a very very good year for downloads of his music.  The last few months of 2018 closed with a great deal of momentum building for his music, and some other artists have paid for the rights to record some of his songs as well.  He has no management. No Label. Markets it all himself. Fronts the money to record and produces or co-produces all of his songs.  But none of this would have come anywhere near this type of success without the fans who find him and download the songs.  So this is a collaborative effort.  

Download statistics are provided by CD Baby, who distributes his music. He also has publishing agreements through them as well.

Smoke From the San Joaquin

On my podcast today, I feature AC Myles and myself. We are both from the Central Valley of California, also known as the San Joaquin Valley. Thus the title, "Smoke From the San Joaquin."
AC is one of the premier guitar players around and I am one of the more prolific songwriters in the area. That being the case, I pull some of our music together to make this podcast.  On my new release, "Fadin to Gray," AC does quite of bit of work for me.  He has been sittin in more and more over the past few years. He can adapt to my style better than most I have met.

Updates

I hope the New year is off to a great start. Unfortunately, that means back to work for many of us. Once we get started into the New Year, we all know how fast things move. It will be spring before we know it.

The new release is "on track," for January 18th, 2019. I did have some publishing issues that I cleared up. CD Baby is easy to work with and gets all this legal stuff done if you provide them with the correct information.  Its all rollin downhill now.

I created a "secondary" You Tube channel. This will be more "off the grid," from my main channel and I will use it to provide little acoustic diddy's for friends and fans as well as provide more intimate updates as to what is going on. Also, I might post little videos of travels.  I recently took a trip down to Southern California, so I put the first little video up related to this.  The link is here:

Happy New Year officially now. :)  After a little drop-off in the number of individual tracks downloaded for November, things roared back in December with over 450 downloads of 49 different Human Project songs, 47 were written by me...The Human of The Human Project. (Loyd Vandergriff)  That gets me stoked, especially with a new release on the horizon (January 18th, 2019) that will have 10 new Human Project Tracks.  Thanks to all the fans world-wide that somehow manage to find my music.  I never cease to be amazed and grateful.
